Celebrations and Rhythms

RiverTree School has established a number of events and celebrations which are key to both the atmosphere and culture of our school. These celebrations and rhythms allow for students, families and members of our community experience life together in a meaningful and rich way.

Festival of Lessons and Carols

Every year RiverTree students participate in a beautiful, liturgical service on the last Friday before winter break. This service has grown to be a meaningful tradition for many families during Advent. Our students read a variety of passages from scripture and sing songs they have worked on through out the year. After the service, family and friends have the opportunity to view a sampling of the students’ artwork.

Grandparents Day

We know that grandparents play an important part in children’s lives. Each year we invite our grandparents and special persons to spend a part of the day at school with their grandchildren. They have a chance to visit classrooms, view student work, hear from administration, and have a snack with their grandchildren.

High School Play

RiverTree 10th and 12th grade students perform one play each year. It is an opportunity for students to learn the skills of characterization, blocking, voice, as well as the technical aspects of production. It is a part of our curriculum therefore all students have a part to play. We produce a child-friendly theater experience and watching the play is often a highlight of our student body experience.

First Grade Puppet Show

The RiverTree first grade class present a puppet show each spring. Each student makes his or her own puppets, grows in their reading skills, and learns to perform in front of an audience. Some of the past performances have included The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, Pinocchio, and Aesop’s Fables.

Spring Concert

K-12 students perform several songs they have worked on learning during their spring semester. After the performance family and friends have the opportunity to view a sampling of the children’s handwork projects.

Shakespeare Festival

The RiverTree academic year concludes with our annual Shakespeare Festival. Throughout the last week of school, 4th-8th graders perform plays from Shakespeare. Younger students recite sonnets, dance around the Maypole, and perform a series of monologues. After the completion of the last day of school, students, parents, siblings, and friends gather in the meadow for the Faire. This is a time for the community to come together and celebrate the year with games, activities, and food.
